Gift Tag

I designed a set of three gift tags, each created for a different occasion - wedding, gratitude, and sympathy. Using a limited colour palette across all three designs - with carefully chosen shades and tints, each design reflects the mood of its respective event. This project focused on applying fundamental design principles such as balance, contrast, and movement, while incorporating elements like shape, line, and space to evoke the right emotions for each tag.

I designed this wedding gift tag using two rounded shapes—an oval leaning on a circle—to symbolize the couple’s connection and support for one another. A smaller sphere between them represents their union, visually balanced through color and contrast. The soft, minimal color palette evokes joy, harmony, and a sense of calm, mirroring the essence of a wedding. Subtle details, like a pear-shaped line inspired by wedding rings and a ribbon-like pink strip, add structure and contrast without distracting from the central focus. The overall design reflects balance, unity, and the journey of two individuals coming together in marriage.

I designed this gratitude gift tag around the idea of “thanks” as a form of support and growth. Using squares as building blocks, I symbolized how those we thank contribute to our foundation. To balance structure and natural support, I combined strong lines and geometric shapes with organic semi-circles, reflecting both reliability and fluidity. The earthy, grounded color palette reinforces stability without overwhelming contrast, ensuring harmony. Repetition and patterns create a sense of order, representing the cyclical nature of support—helping one person can lead to helping another. The overall design embodies balance, reliability, and the strength found in gratitude.

For the sympathy gift tag, I focused on the fluid, layered nature of grief. Inspired by tears and the ever-changing emotions of loss, I avoided rigid structure, instead using a watercolor effect and transparent organic shapes to reflect the movement and depth of grief. A broken circle symbolizes loss—part of it is missing, yet the person remains whole. That missing piece is placed near the tag hole, representing love that still exists but feels lost. The muted color palette acknowledges pain while offering a sense of calm and hope, creating a design that conveys both sorrow and comfort.
